The College of Materials Science and Engineering of Ocean University of China currently has the right to confer a second-level discipline doctorate degree in Marine Materials Science and Engineering, the right to confer a first-level discipline master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, and the right to confer a professional master's degree in Materials Engineering. These degree authorization points rely on the Engineering Research Center of Marine Materials and Protection Technology of the Ministry of Education and the Key Laboratory of Special Marine Materials in Shandong Province's Universities. They focus on the fields of marine materials and new energy materials and carry out research on the preparation and application of related materials. In the past five years, it has won 1 Shandong Province Excellent Doctoral and Master's Thesis, 7 Shandong Province Excellent Master's Theses, and 14 School-level Excellent Master's Theses; it has won 3 Second Prizes of Shandong Province Excellent Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements Award for Postgraduates, 4 Third Prizes of Shandong Province Excellent Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements Award for Postgraduates, and 3 Excellent Practical Achievements Awards for Professional Degree Postgraduates in Shandong Province.
Second-level Discipline Doctoral Degree Authorization Point in Marine Materials Science and Engineering (including Second-level Discipline Master's Academic Degree Authorization Point)
This degree authorization point is the first doctoral degree authorization point for the interdisciplinary subject of marine and materials in the country. It was the first in China to propose the characteristic research and development direction of marine materials, focusing on scientific research fields such as new marine materials, material corrosion and protection, and advanced energy materials. It attaches importance to the combination of materials and the ocean and has advantages in the basic theoretical research and application development of the application of marine materials. The research content of the degree authorization point mainly involves the application evaluation, failure mechanism, and protection measures of various materials in the marine environment, as well as the interaction process and influence laws between the marine environment and materials, thus providing a scientific basis for the development of new materials suitable for the marine environment.
First-level Discipline Master's Academic Degree Authorization Point in Materials Science and Engineering
This degree authorization point has two second-level discipline master's degree authorization points, namely Materials Science and Materials Physics and Chemistry. The main task of the degree authorization point is to develop new materials with various properties required by the national economy. The research content mainly involves theoretical and technical issues related to material preparation, material structure and properties, material preparation processes, and their applications. Currently, this degree authorization point focuses on two main research directions, marine materials and new energy materials. Through interdisciplinary integration with disciplines such as marine science and energy technology, it conducts research and development of new materials with high strength, low density, and corrosion resistance required for marine development, as well as related materials and technologies required in the fields of energy and storage.
Professional Master's Degree Authorization Point in Materials Engineering
The research directions of this degree authorization point mainly involve metallic materials, inorganic non-metallic materials, polymer materials, and composite materials. The research content includes the research and development of materials, the design and development of material production processes and equipment, the processing and modification of material products, the analysis of material properties, and the quality inspection and control of finished products. This degree authorization point attaches importance to school-enterprise cooperation, aiming to solve material engineering problems related to the local economy. It focuses on carrying out research and development work in fields such as anti-corrosion and anti-fouling coatings, marine buoyancy materials, polymer functional composite materials, new energy and storage materials, and welding and processing of metallic materials. It has successively cooperated with enterprises such as Hisense, Haier, Qingdao Marine Chemical Research Institute Co., Ltd., and the 725th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Corporation, and jointly established a joint postgraduate training base to improve the practical ability of professional degree postgraduates.
