Sub-Forum of the College of Materials Science and Engineering Successfully Held at the First International Young Scholars Xingyuan Forum of Ocean University of China

On the morning of December 11, the First International Young Scholars Xingyuan Forum of Ocean University of China (OUC) was officially convened. In the afternoon of the same day, the Sub-Forum of the College of Materials Science and Engineering was successfully held in a hybrid format combining onsite and online participation. The forum attracted outstanding young scholars in the field of materials science from renowned universities and research institutions in Germany, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong (China) and other countries and regions. Members of the College leadership team, the Academic Committee, and representatives of young faculty members attended the forum and engaged in in-depth discussions with overseas scholars.

The scene of the sub-forum

At the opening of the forum, Du Junhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, extended a warm welcome to all participating scholars on behalf of the College. She briefly introduced the materials industry landscape of Shandong Province, Qingdao City, and the Qingdao West Coast New Area, as well as the College’s initiatives and support mechanisms for talent development. She noted that the College is currently in a stage of rapid development and sincerely invited outstanding young scholars from around the world to join the College, work together to promote the high-quality development of the materials discipline, and contribute to the national strategies of building a maritime power and a materials powerhouse.

Subsequently, Cui Zhongyu, Vice Dean of the College, delivered a comprehensive introduction covering the history and development of the College, disciplinary layout, faculty team, talent cultivation, scientific research, platform construction, and social service.

During the academic session, several young scholars from internationally renowned institutions presented insightful academic reports. Their presentations demonstrated solid academic foundations, innovative research perspectives, and substantial preliminary achievements, sparking strong interest and lively discussions among the participants.

Discussion and exchange

In the concluding discussion session, the atmosphere was enthusiastic and engaging. Participating scholars actively raised questions regarding topics of interest such as research support policies, team integration mechanisms, postgraduate training, shared access to experimental platforms, and future interdisciplinary research directions. College representatives provided detailed responses, enabling the scholars to gain a deeper understanding of the College’s research environment, talent policies, and academic culture.

The successful hosting of this sub-forum established an efficient communication platform for overseas young scholars to gain an in-depth understanding of the College, while showcasing its open, collaborative, and forward-looking spirit. Moving forward, the College will continue to embrace talents from around the world with an inclusive mindset, providing fertile ground for young scholars dedicated to innovation in materials science to realize their academic aspirations and jointly contribute to the advancement of the discipline.
