The 2nd "Hisense Cup" 3D Printing Design Competition of Shandong Province and the 11th 3D Printing Design Competition of Ocean University of China were held

On November 22, the finals of the 2nd Hisense Cup 3D Printing Design Competition of Shandong Province and the 11th 3D Printing Design Cmpetition of Ocean University of China (OUC)  were successfully held at OUC’s West Coast Campus. The competition was hosted by the Shandong Silicate Society and the Shandong Materials Society, organized by the College of Materials Science and Engineering of OUC, and supported by Hisense Washer & Dryer Company as the title sponsor. Additional support was provided by Qingdao 3i3D Technology Co., Ltd., partner universities, and various sectors of society.

At the opening ceremony, Yang Maochun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of OUC, expressed his gratitude to the organizers and supporting units and extended a warm welcome to all participating students. He noted that President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter to OUC on its 100th anniversary has provided fundamental guidance and strong motivation for the University’s development. The hosting of this competition is a vivid practice of thoroughly implementing the spirit of President Xi’s important letter, as well as a concrete measure taken by the University to leverage its strengths in education, science, and talent; promote the integration of education and research, and the synergy of academia and industry; and enhance students’ innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities. He encouraged students to take this competition as an opportunity to sharpen their skills, respond to real-world needs, and contribute youthful strength to achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology.

Wang Qingbo, General Manager of the Washer & Dryer R&D Department of Hisense and an alumnus of OUC (Class of 2006, Polymer Materials and Engineering), expressed his delight at returning to his alma mater and witnessing its remarkable progress and development. He emphasized Hisense’s longstanding partnership with OUC and voiced hopes for continued strengthening of technological cooperation. He also expressed that the creative ideas generated through the competition would bring new inspiration to product development.

Liu Yu, an undergraduate student from the College of Materials Science and Engineering, delivered a speech on behalf of the participating students. He remarked that students gathered at the competition out of passion and pursuit, sharpening their practical abilities through the integration of theory and practice. He expressed his anticipation to join fellow competitors in presenting works that combine scientific rigor with artistic creativity on the stage of this year’s competition.

This year’s competition, themed “Application-Driven Innovation, Design Illuminates the Future,” consisted of two tracks: “Hisense Washing Machine Design” and “Intelligent Companion Robot Design.” The washing machine track focused on structural and aesthetic innovation to provide creative, feasible concepts for future home appliance iterations. The companion robot track centered on “intelligent companionship,” exploring how 3D printing technology can support structural optimization and functional realization in companion-oriented intelligent products. Nearly 100 teams from 13 universities—including Shandong University, Ocean University of China, China University of Petroleum (East China), Qingdao University, and Qingdao University of Science and Technology—participated. After intense competition, the contest awarded 2 First Prizes, 6 Second Prizes, 12 Third Prizes, and 28 Merit Awards.
