On July 19th, the Future Scientists Forum of Ocean University of China - the National Postgraduate Academic Forum on Functional Materials and Devices was successfully held at the West Coast Campus. The event was hosted by the Graduate School of Ocean University of China and organized by the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Ocean University of China and the School of Polymer Science and Engineering of Qingdao University of Science and Technology. Over 150 experts and postgraduate students from 9 universities and research institutes including Fudan University, Beihang University, Beijing Normal University, Ocean University of China, Harbin Engineering University, Qingdao University, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics, Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the forum. The forum was presided over by Professor Cui Hongzhi, the dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Ocean University of China.

Cui Hongzhi extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all the experts and scholars. She introduced the significant progress made by the college in the comprehensive reform of postgraduate education, as well as the distinctive research and abundant achievements in the interdisciplinary field of functional materials. She pointed out that this forum closely aligns with the demands of the national science and technology development, focusing on the cutting-edge topics of functional materials. She expressed the hope that the experts would share their wisdom and that the postgraduate students would actively engage in in-depth exchanges with the experts, jointly promoting the innovative development of national functional materials technology.
Professor Bo Zhishan from Beijing Normal University gave a presentation on High-Efficiency and Low-Cost Organic Photovoltaic Materials and Devices, Professor Che Renchao from Fudan University spoke on Microscopic Mechanism of Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Materials, Researcher Zhang Xuetong from Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics, Chinese Academy of Sciences presented on Aerogel Fibers: Design, Preparation and Functionalization, Professor Yue Yonghai from Beihang University shared Super-Hard and High-Toughness Nanotwinned Diamond, Researcher Chen Tao from Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences introduced Polymer Hydrogel Biomimetic Smart Materials, and Professor Quan Fengyu from Qingdao University discussed Research Progress on Industrial Application of Marine and Terrestrial Natural Polysaccharide Fibers. They shared their latest research progress and valuable experience, and interacted with the teachers and students. The atmosphere on the spot was very lively.

More than 30 outstanding postgraduate students from various universities and research institutes presented their research progress and achievements in the fields of functional polymer materials, functional composite materials, marine environmental corrosion protection, energy storage materials and devices, etc. in three parallel sessions, and exchanged and learned with the attending experts, scholars and postgraduate students.

The Future Scientists Forum this time was themed Functional Materials and Devices, providing a platform for in-depth communication and cooperation among experts, scholars and postgraduate students from different institutions. The forum focused on the cutting-edge technologies and applications of functional materials, covering areas such as the design and synthesis of functional materials, the preparation and characterization of functional devices, and the application and industrialization of functional marine materials, promoting academic innovation and exchange. Through the brilliant reports and in-depth discussions of the attending experts, participants broadened their horizons, stimulated their thinking, and further deepened their understanding and exploration of the materials discipline, laying a solid foundation for the future development of the discipline and academic research.
