In order to thoroughly implement the Party's educational policies, fulfill the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and continuously enhance faculty teaching capabilities and educational quality, the School of Materials Science and Engineering held its 6th Teaching Competition on the afternoon of June 12 in Room 108 of the Materials Building at the West Coast Campus. Vice Dean Wang Huanlei presided over the event.
In her opening remarks, School Party Secretary Du Junhua emphasized that in recent years, the school has actively cultivated a culture that respects teaching and values education through various initiatives. These include optimizing teaching organizations and supervision mechanisms, improving professional development systems for young faculty, establishing teaching awards, and hosting Coffee Talk faculty development forums. She noted that as the school enters a critical phase of high-quality development, strengthening the teaching capabilities of young faculty has become particularly important. Teaching competitions serve as a vital platform for advancing educational reform, reinforcing teaching responsibilities, and enhancing the quality of undergraduate education. She encouraged more faculty to participate in such competitions to improve their teaching skills and expressed gratitude to the experts for their guidance and continued support of the school's development.
Competition Highlights
During the event, participating faculty delivered 20-minute teaching demonstrations based on their respective courses, accompanied by submitted teaching materials such as lesson plans, syllabi, and courseware. The presentations were well-prepared, content-rich, and logically structured, with clear and fluent delivery, showcasing the professional competence and teaching prowess of young faculty in the new era.
Expert Evaluation
The competition invited renowned teaching experts from across the university to serve as judges, including Duan Shanli, Director of the Higher Education Research and Evaluation Center; Professors Tang Ruichun (Information学部), Zhou Liqin (Engineering), Liu Zunying (Food Science), Xie Yingchun (Engineering), and Zhang Yue (Materials Science). The judges conducted comprehensive evaluations based on multiple criteria, including instructional design, classroom organization, teaching methods, language expression, demeanor, and teaching effectiveness. While acknowledging the participants' strengths, the judges also provided targeted feedback and suggestions drawn from their own teaching experiences, further clarifying the standards for high-quality classroom instruction.
After careful deliberation, the competition results were announced: First Prize- Shi Jing, Second Prize- Xia Chenghui, Zhao Dechao, Third Prize- Zhu Yue, Feng Huimeng, Li Leigang.

The competition was hosted by the School of Materials Science and Engineering and co-organized by the Academic Affairs Office, Teaching Support Center, and Higher Education Research and Evaluation Center. Participants were selected and recommended by various teaching units within the school. The event was attended by teaching supervisors, course coordinators, and newly hired faculty members.
