From May 31 to June 2, the Motic-Lai Zhou Heng Yi Cup 6th Shandong Provincial College Students Metallographic Skills Competition and the 14th National College Students Metallographic Skills Competition (Shandong Division) was held in Weifang, Shandong. Six undergraduate students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Ocean University of China participated and achieved excellent results, winning 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, and 2 third prizes.
Under the guidance of instructors Man Cheng and Pang Kun from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the participating students underwent intensive training day and night before the competition. Their dedication and flexible performance during the event resulted in exquisite metallographic works, demonstrating the solid professional skills of Ocean University students in the field of materials science. The award-winning students include: Cui Jiyao (Class of 2023, Materials Science and Engineering) – First Prize,Li Zheng, Jian Haoyue, Wang Guansen – Second Prize,Du Mingyu, Wang Shuaihao – Third Prize
The competition received strong support from the school, reflecting the educational philosophy of promoting teaching, reform, and learning through competition. It holds significant practical value for deepening teaching reforms and cultivating high-quality innovative talents in materials science.
Co-organized by the Shandong Provincial Teaching Advisory Committee for Materials Science, Weifang University of Science and Technology, and Shandong Materials Society, the competition attracted over 250 participants from 42 universities across the province. As an authoritative and influential event in materials science, the Metallographic Skills Competition plays a crucial role in advancing microstructural analysis technology and fostering professional talent development, while strengthening the connection between material science education and industrial practice.
