To implement the Party’s educational policies in the new era, strengthen collaboration between Double First-Class universities and secondary education, and inspire scientific curiosity and patriotism among youth, the School of Materials Science and Engineering organized a series of enrollment promotion and science popularization activities in Henan Province from April 16 to 19. Led by Du Junhua, Party Secretary of the School, and Wang Huanlei, Vice Dean, the delegation visited nine prestigious high schools, including Kaifeng High School, Lankao No.1 Middle School, and Henan Normal University Affiliated High School, under the theme “Discover Ocean University of China · Explore Materials Science.” The events engaged over 2,000 teachers and students, generating enthusiastic responses.

Precision Outreach: Guiding Students to Chart Their Futures

During enrollment seminars, school leaders and faculty systematically introduced Ocean University of China’s history, academic strengths in marine science and engineering, and talent cultivation systems. Highlighting the School’s unique focus on “marine materials,” they showcased breakthroughs in anti-corrosion materials, marine structural safety, and functional materials R&D. Addressing concerns under Henan’s new college entrance exam reforms, the team provided detailed explanations on the Strong Foundation Program, Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, academic pathways, career prospects, and more—backed by data and real-world examples—to illuminate pathways to higher education for students.

Science Lectures Ignite Passion: Materials Science Lights the Way

To cultivate scientific literacy and innovation, the School designed the “Wonder of Materials” lecture series. Centered on “Materials and Societal Progress,” the sessions used vivid visuals and accessible language to explain material classification, evolution, and their pivotal role in technological revolutions. Questions like “What material is the Monkey King’s Golden Cudgel made of?” sparked curiosity, blending cultural references with discussions on cutting-edge fields such as marine anti-corrosion materials, biomedical materials, nanotechnology, and new energy materials. These lectures underscored the discipline’s vast potential and real-world impact.
