To promote the spirit of scientists in the new era and recognize exemplary scientific contributions, the Person of the Year in Science and Technology awards, launched by Science China magazine from a media perspective, recently announced their 2024 honorees. Professor Cui Hongzhi, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, was named an Influential Scientist for her transformative work in materials science and engineering.
Influential Scientists represent the highest recognition for researchers who have made profound impacts on global scientific and industrial development through groundbreaking achievements. The 30 laureates, spanning generations born in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, include both basic science pioneers building theoretical foundations and applied science leaders translating research into real-world solutions. As core pillars of China’s scientific community, they leverage academic expertise, strategic vision, and leadership to drive progress across disciplines.
Professor Cui’s Contributions:
As a trailblazer in materials for extreme environments and damage protection, Professor Cui has dedicated over three decades to addressing critical national needs in energy, marine engineering, and transportation. Her innovations in high-performance materials and damage prevention technologies have significantly improved equipment safety and operational efficiency in sectors such as offshore engineering and heavy machinery, yielding substantial economic and social benefits.
