From December 6 to December 7, at the invitation of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor Julea Butt of the University of East Anglia gave a talk entitled Microbes, Minerals (electrode) and Biotechnology in Room 211 of the School of Materials. The report was chaired by Professor Fu Yubin and attended by several faculty members and dozens of graduate students.

At the beginning of the report, Professor Fu Yubin gave a welcoming speech, expressing a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to Professor Julea Butt. As the report deals with the diversity and flexibility of anaerobic microbial respiratory systems in seafloor sediments or freshwater systems, Professor Butt begins by detailing the unique electron transfer mechanisms and processes of the electricity-producing bacterium Shewanella. Then, Professor Butt introduced his scientific findings in the study of protein membrane electrochemistry, which have important application prospects in the fields of biogeochemical cycling and mineralization, bacterial corrosion, bioenergy development, microbial fuel cells, environmental pollution bioreintervention, microbial electrosynthesis, molecular devices, biological photovoltaic and so on.

In this academic report, the teachers and students had a heated discussion with Professor Julea Butt about their interests and corresponding questions. The academic report received a satisfactory academic exchange effect.
