Invited by the organizing committee of ESIA17-ISSI2023 (2023 International Academic Seminar on Structural Integrity), Prof. Cui Hongzhi, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, led a team to Manchester, UK from May 21 to 26 to attend an academic conference and visit a number of universities and research institutes.

The conference was organized by the UK Forum for Engineering Structural Integrity (FESI) and the China Structural Integrity Alliance (CSIC) More than 130 experts and scholars from China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Germany, Singapore and other countries participated in the conference, the main venue and more than 10 sub-venues in Manchester. Topics cover additive manufacturing, residual stress, corrosion fatigue, coating and damage protection, environmental sensitive fracture and other popular research areas for major engineering equipment.

Professor Cui Hongzhi was invited to deliver a report on Design of wear and corrosion resistant materials and high-energy beam surface strengthening at the main venue. The toughening design, high-energy beam preparation technology, environmental damage mechanism and major engineering applications of abrasion resistant coatings were systematically described. The dominant discipline direction of Ocean University of China and the College of Materials Science and Engineering were introduced, which received positive feedback and warm response from the participants at home and abroad.
