On August 21, 2023, Professor Scott Smith, International Deputy Minister of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Adelaide, Australia, was invited to visit the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, and made an academic report entitled Research and Application of Fibre-reinforced composite Materials in the Built Environment. The presentation was chaired by Professor Huang Minghua, Head of the Department of Polymer, School of Materials Science and Engineering.

Professor Scott Smith began by giving a brief overview of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology at the University of Adelaide, including postgraduate exchange programs and opportunities for further study. In the subsequent academic report, he introduced the research and application status of fiber-reinforced composite materials in the built environment, showed the future development direction of this field through SWOT (Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis, and launched a heated discussion and exchange with teachers and students present. More than 100 students and teachers from the Department of Information Science and Engineering, the School of Engineering and the School of Materials Science and Engineering attended the lecture.
Question and answer session
After the presentation, Professor Scott Smith visited the scientific research laboratory of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, listened to the scientific research reports of relevant personnel and put forward constructive suggestions on laboratory construction. Accompanying the visitors were Dean Yu Zhen of Hyde College, Professor Huang Minghua and Associate Professor Cui Zhongyu of the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
