On August 30, the School of Materials Science and Engineering welcomed its incoming undergraduate students of the Class of 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their academic journeys.

To ensure a smooth arrival, the School made preparations in advance. Each new student received a welcome package containing a School-branded T-shirt, a home–school contact card and a letter to parents. Wanhua Chemical also sponsored mattresses for the students, helping them settle into campus life.

Du Junhua, Secretary of the School’s Party Committee; Hu Shuangshuang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean; Wang Huanlei, Vice Dean; together with first-year class advisers and counselors, visited the welcome station at Nanhaiyuan on the Laoshan Campus, the student residences and the registration site. They checked on the arrival arrangements and greeted new students and their families. In the residences, they spoke with students and parents about their accommodation and transition to university life.

At the Nanhaiyuan welcome station, volunteers distributed the welcome packages and answered students’ questions. In Classroom 6415, new students completed identity verification, submitted their records and collected student handbooks, formally beginning their university studies.

The School also held a meeting with parents in Classroom 6218. School leaders, class advisers and counselors discussed students’ personal development, academic progress, mental health and campus services, and answered parents’ questions. Hu emphasized that students’ growth depends on close cooperation between families and the School. She encouraged students to focus on their studies and build a solid foundation in their field, while calling on families and the School to work together to promote safety and help students observe laws and university regulations.

Earlier, on August 27, the School held an online meeting to help students and parents learn about the university, the School and the registration process. Wang Xue from the university’s Center for Mental Health Education and Counseling gave a lecture titled “Home–School Partnership: Working Together for Student Growth.” She discussed the psychological development of university students and the emotional challenges that new students may face, offering parents practical guidance on emotional support and communication.

To the Class of 2026: your university journey holds many possibilities. May you remain true to your aspirations, study diligently and make the most of the opportunities ahead as you grow at the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
