From June 5 to 7, the “Motic-Hengyu Cup” 7th Shandong Undergraduate Metallographic Skills Competition, which also served as the Shandong regional qualifying round for the 15th National Undergraduate Metallographic Skills Competition, was held in Weifang, Shandong Province. Six undergraduate students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Ocean University of China participated in the competition and achieved outstanding results, winning one First Prize, three Second Prizes, two Third Prizes, and the Team Second Prize.

Under the guidance of faculty members Man Cheng, Pang Kun, and Du Qing, the students devoted themselves to intensive preparation and demonstrated strong technical skills throughout the competition. Their meticulous specimen preparation and high-quality metallographic works earned widespread recognition from the judges.
Among the participants, Liang Yue, a 2023 student majoring in Polymer Materials and Engineering, won the Individual First Prize. Liu Mingqi, a 2024 student majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, along with Zhang Yuyue and Xu Shixing, both 2024 students majoring in New Energy Materials and Devices, received Individual Second Prizes. Wang Yi, a 2024 student majoring in New Energy Materials and Devices, and Ma Jinhu, a 2024 student majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, were awarded Individual Third Prizes.

The competition received strong support from the School and reflected its educational philosophy of “promoting teaching, learning, and improvement through competition.” The achievements further strengthened the practical training foundation for cultivating highly qualified and innovative talents in materials science and engineering.
