School of Materials Science and Engineering Holds Special Training Session on Engineering Education Accreditation

To advance engineering education accreditation efforts, accurately grasp the connotations and standards of accreditation, and comprehensively improve program development, the School of Materials Science and Engineering held a special training session on engineering education accreditation on May 8. Professor Jia Yanlin from Central South University was invited to deliver a keynote training report. Wang Zhenzhen, Director of the Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation Office, Du Junhua, Party Secretary of the School, Cui Hongzhi, Dean of the School, as well as more than 50 faculty members, laboratory center staff, and teaching administrators attended the session. The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean Wang Huanlei.

Professor Jia Yanlindelivered a special report

  During the training session, Professor Jia delivered a report titled “The Mainline and Baseline of Engineering Education Accreditation.” He systematically explained the core concepts of accreditation, the construction of an outcome-based education system, and the logical relationship between the curriculum system and graduation requirements. Drawing on the characteristics of materials science disciplines and practical experience in program development, he provided a detailed interpretation of accreditation standards, indicator systems, key development priorities, and practical implementation experience. The report was comprehensive, well-focused, and highly instructive.

Exchange and discussion

  During the discussion session, Wang Zhenzhen and several faculty representatives engaged in in-depth exchanges with Professor Jia on key challenges encountered in the preparation process for engineering education accreditation. Based on practical accreditation experience, Professor Jia provided detailed answers and targeted guidance to each question, creating an active and productive atmosphere for discussion.

  Following the expert presentation, Dean Cui Hongzhi mobilized and deployed the school’s accreditation work on behalf of the School. He emphasized the importance of professional accreditation in enhancing program competitiveness, strengthening the international recognition of talent cultivation, and promoting the School’s long-term development. He called on all academic programs, laboratory centers, and administrative personnel to strengthen their sense of responsibility, mission, and urgency, adopt an integrated and coordinated approach, strictly adhere to timelines and accreditation standards, and complete the self-evaluation reports and supporting materials with high quality to ensure successful accreditation.

  The training session was rich in content and highly targeted, further unifying understanding, building consensus, and clarifying future directions. Taking this training as an opportunity, the School will continue to advance accreditation-related work under the guidance of the Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation Office, strictly benchmark against engineering education accreditation standards, and adhere to the principle of “promoting development, reform, and strengthening through evaluation,” with the goal of continuously improving talent cultivation quality and advancing the School’s high-quality development.
