The Future Scientists Forum of Ocean University of China - National Postgraduate Academic Forum on "Marine Equipment Materials and Their Protective Technologies" was successfully held

On September 20th, the Future Scientists Forum of Ocean University of China - National Postgraduate Academic Forum on Marine Equipment Materials and Their Protection Technology was successfully held in Qingdao. The event was hosted by the Graduate School of Ocean University of China, organized by the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Ocean University of China, and co-organized by the Corrosion and Protection Society of Shandong Province and Qingdao City. This forum, with the theme of Frontier Theories and Technologies for Materials and Protection of Marine Equipment, aims to deeply explore the key challenges such as corrosion, contamination, and coupling failure faced by various marine-related equipment including offshore wind power, offshore photovoltaic power, offshore platforms, nuclear power, and basic transportation in the harsh Marine environment, and to exchange the latest progress in advanced protection technologies. The forum brought together over 180 experts, scholars and postgraduate students from related fields, including Academician Hou Baorong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chen Shougang, a professor at Ocean University of China and the secretary-general of the Shandong Corrosion and Protection Society.

Chen Shougang extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all the experts and scholars present. He also introduced the remarkable achievements made by the School of Materials Science and Engineering in deepening the comprehensive reform of postgraduate education in recent years, as well as the distinctive research directions and rich achievements formed in the interdisciplinary field of Marine Equipment Materials and Their Protection Technology. He pointed out that this forum closely revolves around the strategic demands of national science and technology development, focusing on the cutting-edge scientific and technological issues in the field of Marine equipment materials. He looks forward to the experts attending the forum speaking freely and contributing their insightful views. At the same time, he also hopes that the majority of postgraduate students will seize the opportunity and actively engage in in-depth exchanges and discussions with experts and scholars. Jointly inject new impetus and explore new paths for the high-quality development of Marine equipment materials and their protection technologies in our country.

The forum invited many experts to deliver a series of wonderful keynote speeches. Researcher Wang Hongren from the 725 Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited gave a presentation on Corrosion Evaluation and Protection Technology of Ship Seawater Pipeline System, Professor Xu Dake from Northeastern University presented on Microbial Corrosion and Prevention of Metallic Materials, and Professor Zhang Dawei from University of Science and Technology Beijing gave a talk on Research on Intelligent Technology for Gas Corrosion Protection. Chief Engineer GUI Taijiang of Marine Chemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. gave a presentation on Marine Equipment and Marine Coatings. Professor Tang Junlei from Southwest Petroleum University presented on Corrosion Challenges and Research Progress in Marine Electrolytic Water Hydrogen Production. Professor Fu Jiajun from Nanjing University of Science and Technology gave a talk on Design and Application of Marine Self-healing Anti-corrosion Coating Materials. Professor Liu Yan from Jilin University gave reports on Bionic Multifunctional Surface Design and Functional Regulation successively, sharing the latest research progress and valuable experience, and engaging in exchanges with teachers and students. The atmosphere on the spot was very lively.

In the afternoon, the meeting moved on to the academic exchange session for postgraduate students. More than 100 postgraduate students from over 10 universities and research institutions, including Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, Northeastern University, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shandong University, Ocean University of China, China University of Petroleum (East China), Shandong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Maritime University, and Yantai University, participated in the exchange and delivered 21 academic reports successively. The postgraduate reports respectively shared and exchanged the application status, research progress and technological innovations in aspects such as advanced Marine protective coatings, multi-field coupled corrosion mechanisms of materials and new types of protection against biological fouling. After communication and questioning, the review experts selected a total of 14 outstanding oral reports from postgraduate students and awarded them certificates and prizes.

The Future Scientists Forum this time, with the theme of Frontier Theories and Technologies for Marine Equipment Materials and Protection, has built a high-level and open academic exchange and cooperation platform for experts, scholars and postgraduate students from multiple universities and research institutes. The forum conducted in-depth discussions on key topics such as the corrosion mechanism of Marine materials, the development of new Marine materials, technological innovation in protection, and the practical application and existing challenges of Marine equipment materials, effectively promoting academic innovation and the collision of viewpoints in related fields. Through a series of wonderful reports and lively discussions, the postgraduate students attending the meeting not only broadened their research horizons but also stimulated their innovative thinking. This further deepened their understanding of the cutting-edge trends in the materials discipline, laying a solid foundation for subsequent research innovation and exchanges and cooperation.
